Man Robs Peoria gas station at 7am with a shotgun. The suspect has been charged seven prior times with Robbery in Peoria County.

On Monday, December 22, 2025, at approximately 7:10 a.m., Peoria Police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at a business (Marathon Gas Station), located in the 1900 block of W. Forrest Hill Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with an employee who reported that a masked male suspect entered the business armed with a shotgun and demanded money. The suspect exited the business and fled the area in a vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash prior to officers’ arrival. No injuries were reported.
Responding officers, along with a Peoria Police K-9 Unit, conducted an immediate search of the surrounding area and deployed department drones in an effort to locate the suspect; however, the initial search was unsuccessful.
During the course of the investigation, officers identified the suspect as 48-year-old Robert L. Trader Jr. Investigators utilized a License Plate Reader (LPR) system to locate the vehicle used in the offense, which was found in the 2000 block of S. Elizabeth Avenue in Peoria County.
Officers responded to the location where Trader Jr. was located inside a residence and taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search of the suspect vehicle resulted in the recovery of a shotgun.
Trader Jr. was transported to the Peoria Police Department for an interview and was subsequently arrested for Armed Robbery and an Active Warrant. He was later transported to the Peoria County Jail.
This incident remains under investigation.
