How would you get this bolt out? 🤦‍♂️🔧

I've tried just about everything I can think of at this point—impact gun, breaker bar, penetrating oil, and even heat—but this thing still refuses to budge.

The biggest issue seems to be the locking tab/notch. It won't lift up or move out of the way, and I'm wondering if that's what's keeping the bolt from turning.

Before I completely lose my mind or start making the problem worse, does anyone have any tricks, techniques, or experience with a setup like this?

What would be your next move?

At what point, if any, does a ratchet become "worn out" enough that you'd replace it based on mileage or years of use?

I've got a few ratchets that have seen countless jobs and probably hundreds of thousands of miles' worth of repairs, but they're still hanging in there. Some are a little loose, some have been rebuilt, and some just keep working no matter what.

Do you have a mileage benchmark, a number of years, or is it simply a matter of replacing them when they fail?

Well... the guy at the parts store told me there was no way I could run a 7/16" bottoming tap into a 3/8" hole with stripped threads without drilling it first.

Turns out he might have been a little too confident. 😁

I gave it a shot anyway, and it worked out just fine.

Not saying it's always the right solution for every situation, but in this case the threads cleaned up, the tap went in, and I didn't have to drill the hole first.

Sometimes experience in the shop beats the advice from behind the counter! 😂🔧
