I'm excited to start a monthly event, telling Moving Stories on ZOOM. I will begin on Monday June 16th from 7-8 PM telling a story from the book, "Nancy's Hero Stories".

My sister, Rev. Nancy Butler, wrote "Hero Stories", a collection of stories describing the lives of people of faith who inspired her. My mother (J. Woodruff) painted this picture of her. She died of ALS in 2016...as one of my favorite heroes.

Her stories work well for all ages. Have art supplies, a sandtray, some objects or Wonder Box nearby. The specific hero for this month is a surprise!

Hello Playful Healing People--a transition is afoot!

For many years, By the Sea Seminars provided workshops, sponsored the Roundtable, and housed a library of therapeutic Moving Stories™. Over the last year, Moving Stories™ evolved into its own entity, and By the Sea Seminars continues in our memories and relationships.

The library of therapeutic Moving Stories™ housed on the By the Sea Seminars website will be available again in time, as I develop kits to go with them.

I am also developing an online Moving Stories™ training series that I hope to be available soon, a Moving Storyteller certification, and Moving Stories™ onsite and remote for individuals and groups.

Trauma Responsive Schooling: Centering Student Voice and Healing - Educator Book Study
Online Book Study Group hosted by Cobscook Institute
Tuesdays: March 12, 19 & 26 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Cost: Free

Join educators, researchers, and authors Cat Biddle, Lyn Mikel Brown, and Mark Tappan for a three-session study of their book, Trauma-Responsive Schooling: Centering Student Voice and Healing. The book chronicles the findings from a multiyear research project in two elementary schools in rural Maine. Participants in this book study will engage with the text, authors, and each other to learn about concrete and actionable practices that educators can leverage to upend traditional classroom power dynamics by listening foremost to student voices, validating student experiences, and promoting student agency.

This program is especially for formal and informal educators, parents and guardians, school administrators, and those seeking strategies to support students.

Dr. Sue Carroll Duffy is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™ with over 25 years of experience working with tribal communities. As the Director of Clinical Support and Innovation at Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness, she supports clinicians and teachers working with Maine tribes and serves as a resource to the WPHW team in developing culturally and trauma responsive programs specifically for children from tribal communities. Dr. Carroll Duffy is also the owner of By the Sea Seminars and creator of the Moving Stories Method-an integrated therapeutic approach that supports children’s learning and healing through play, sand, and storytelling. She is piloting her first cohort of Level One training towards becoming certified Moving Storytellers at the end of the month.
