First ACT to present Sound of Music July 18-20
The rumors are true! Live community theater is returning to Perryville this summer, when First ACT will present “The Sound of Music.”
Performances are set for 7 pm Friday and Saturday, July 18 and 19, and 2 pm Sunday, July 20 at Perry Park Center Theater. Tickets are $10 for assigned seating and can be purchased at pcca.booktix.com, or at the door. Tickets are selling quickly, so it’s recommended to purchase online.
“The Sound of Music” is one of the most beloved musicals of all time. This Rodgers and Hammerstein classic is set in 1938 in Austria. An exuberant young governess named Maria brings music and joy back to the family of Captain von Trapp, only to face danger and intrigue as the N***s gain power.
The show is directed by Robbie Riehn and Terry Rousseau is the musical director. Jennifer Birk-Cook is a casting director and is designing the costumes with Tina Mueller and Wendy Young. Adam Duncan is the set designer, and Kate Martin is the business manager.
“First ACT Community Theater Co. has had a 17-year hiatus,” Martin said. “Our last show was ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ in 2008. Last fall, Raymond Scott of Perry County Creative Arts contacted a couple of the original members of First ACT to ask if we’d be interested in resuming performances under the auspices of PCCA. The answer was ‘Yes!’ We’ve been rehearsing our show since April, and we have assembled an incredibly talented cast of adults, teens, and children for ‘The Sound of Music.’ You’ll recognize many of the singers from our churches, schools, and other performances. Their voices are incredible. If you love theater and music, you truly don’t want to miss this show.”
