Jareth's Battle with Childhood Cancer

Jareth made it through surgery and is recovering in the PICU. They operated on his brain only, and managed to get a really good sample so they did not feel they needed to go in at his lumbar spine. He is having some nystagmus, and a bit of slurred speech, but overall he is in GREAT spirits. He is talking a lot, wishing he could have solid foods, and not complaining of much pain.

Also, when he was about to go under, he asked the doctors, "Anyone need anything while I'm out?" So, that's my kid.

We will be taking Jareth in for surgery early tomorrow morning. They are intending to do a double biopsy, spine and brain, but if the first portion gives enough of a sample they may be able to stop there. We are hoping to rediagnose, as the tumors are not behaving as the type of cancer they had believed them to be. We are hopeful this will go well, but any thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

In October, I posted on my personal page about possible changes to Jareth's MRI results, and that we would need a follow-up scan to confirm. On December 15, we completed this scan and they determined that not only are the changes there, but that the tumors have grown even since the last scan.

Today I talked with his oncologist about treatment options and the plan going forward. We are considering another biopsy, but will need to consult the surgeon before finalizing that. Regardless, he will be going through some form of chemotherapy, most likely starting in January sometime.

We could use any and all thoughts, prayers, and good vibes sent our way while we navigate this. We really hope that things go smoothly, but there's no guarantee of that. I'll keep everyone updated as much as I can.

From then to now. My little boy isn't so little anymore. Tomorrow he turns 15 years old and I can't believe it. Every day this month I've looked back on our life together and I have loved every minute of being your mom. I have an incredible kid who has been dealt some bad cards yet has continued on.

Jareth, you are an incredibly funny, charismatic, smart, and handsome young man. I wouldn't change a thing about you. I wish you the very best birthday, though your birthday activities have been spread across this month. We will spend tomorrow, and every day after, enjoying you and celebrating you.

No disease progression, everything is stable! Yay!! Photo dump!

Jareth had an MRI and labwork on Monday and everything looks great! No growth or changes to the tumors, his weight is good and stable, his labs are all perfect or very close to it. We are so so happy to be able to report that all is well ❤️

Hey everyone! We are embarking on Jareth’s Make-A-Wish trip in less than one month to see Wrestlemania in Philadelphia! Jareth is incredibly excited for this and so are we, and we plan on sharing the adventure here with you all in photos!
