STRONG WINDS POSSIBLE ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES!

SPC has upped the potential for damaging winds today as a weak MCV is now noted across Iowa drifting east. A cold front also exists that will sweep across the region. With as hot and humid as it is, the air has plenty of fuel and storms should erupt by early evening. Strong straight line winds are expected to be the main mode!

A squall line is expected to move through on Saturday with potentially damaging wind gusts and torrential rainfall

- Models this morning show a squall line developing overnight across Wisconsin and Minnesota and marching southeast tomorrow morning into northern Illinois. This squall line will move through the area from 9am-2pm with potentially damaging wind gusts of 60-70 mph and very heavy rainfall. Very low risk for a brief tornado or two. After this clears out tomorrow afternoon, we will become very warm and humid, and a few more storms will develop tomorrow evening and could pose a marginal threat for strong wind gusts and hail. The main focus tomorrow will be this squall line that moves through around lunchtime.

06/24/2025

We are continuing to monitor this storm closely. It is now in Putnam County and nearing the I-39 corridor heading into LaSalle County. It has a history of rotation, along with gusty winds and very heavy rainfall.

06/16/2025

Confidence is slowly increasing for a complex of storms (MCS) to move through northern Illinois tomorrow from 3pm-8pm (5-8pm for Chicagoland). Storms could be capable of damaging wind gusts of 60-70 mph, hail, and heavy rainfall.
