Fun night in jail last night! 👻✨

My out-of-state friends (who I hadn’t seen in months and desperately missed) came out to the old Licking Co. Jail last night!

It was so nice to catch up, ghost hunt (duh!) and show them the jail!

So glad to have been back up to shenanigans with these two! 👻🖤✨

I truly love this beauty of a building, but every visit here is so very heavy.

To know the horrid things that went on inside these walls…

I am very grateful however that this building is still standing, as it serves a reminder to what asylums used to be like- and is a huge part of history.

The architecture of this building really makes it one of my favorites, but it also truly has such a huge grasp on me with the history that it holds within.

Also… it’s allegedly one of Ohios most haunted locations, let me know if you would like to know why… 🔦

This art museum isn’t your ordinary museum… it’s located inside the central administrative building of a former asylum. 😳

As many times as I’ve been to The Ridges, I never made it inside the museum- as it’s always closed when I’ve been sadly. However, I finally got to stop in during this most recent visit, and it was worth the wait! 👏🏼

Went to an art gallery inside of a former insane asylum…

Welcome to the Kennedy Museum of Art, inside of The Ridges ( formerly known as the Athens Lunatic Asyum ) in Athens, Ohio.

The gallery is setup inside a few rooms on the first and second floors in the front main section of this Kirkbride building.

These rooms formerly would have *most likely* been front offices, rooms for staff or meetings, and things along those lines. You can even see part of the former ballroom on the second floor through the glass on the door- which is sadly not open to the public though, as it’s a staff room.

As many times as I have been down to The Ridges and explored there, I had yet to go in the front to see the gallery. (It’s always closed when I go haha)

It was absolutely beautiful- but, I rarely could focus on the art. All I could truly think about was with every room that I stepped in to, was ‘what was this room once used for, and who was here years and years before me?’.

Every time that I’m here, both the grounds and the building are so heavy. This history here is absolutely horrific.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to see The Ridges, I recommend stopping inside the museum as well. 🖤
