Belarus is sometimes referred to as the potato country due to its extensive use of potatoes in many dishes. Potatoes are such a staple that they are affectionately called the second bread. Belarusian cuisine features more than 300 potato-based dishes, ranging from draniki (potato pancakes) to babka (potato pudding).
