Members of the Affordable Housing Committee (AHC) participated in the 2025 Granny D Memorial Walk on Saturday, August 2. At the event, they showcased EnvisionTown, an exciting initiative led by the Peterborough Affordable Housing Committee in collaboration with the Office of Planning & Building.

This initiative highlights several undeveloped or underutilized properties, demonstrating their potential for redevelopment into vibrant mixed-use spaces and affordable housing solutions. With guidance from senior architectural students at Keene State College, EnvisionTown aims to inspire innovative and practical ideas for transforming these properties into valuable community assets.

The AHC will also be at the Night Market hosted by MAXT Makerspace on Friday, August 8, to share these projects again.

"Vose Farm Residences is new affordable housing model that makes it possible for working families and individuals to manage their housing cost (including utilities) to be no more than 30% of monthly income. This reasonable approach not only empowers families and individuals, young and older, by ensuring their housing costs are sustainable but also fosters a sense of community and belonging, contributing to the overall well-being and stability of everyone involved."

The AHC was honored to be part of the process and advocacy efforts, and is thrilled to have witnessed these residences come to life.

Applications to apply for residency at the Vose Farm Residences can be found in the comments below!

Quick recap of James Vayo’s presentation in the ADU session 1 seminar at the Peterborough Town Library last year, which focused on policies and programs that help incentivize the creation of ADUs:

Affordability:
- Some places have implemented 0% loans to build an ADU.
- Some places have implemented grants to homeowners that help cover the preliminary costs such as permitting and site work.

Pre-Approved Plans
- Plans are created for public use.
- Plans can be created by a municipality, a design professional, or private firm.

Design Initiatives
- Generates awareness and educational opportunities for ADUs in the community.
- Generates high quality designs that are more likely to inspire homeowners to build ADUs.

Obviously, this is quite boiled down, to view the entire session you can find the links in our most recent newsletter. Use link in bio to subscribe.

If you found this quick recap helpful let us know and we can do recaps of the other presenters!
