In this Monday motivational Psalm 20:7 devotional, Dr. Valarie Harris shares an encouraging message called “When What You Trust Gets Tested.” If you’ve been leaning on money, people, plans, or your own strength more than God, this “Faith Tested: Trust God” devotional will help you reset where your confidence really lives.
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” – Psalm 20:7
In David’s day, chariots and horses were symbols of power, human advantage, and visible security.
Today, our “chariots and horses” can look like:
-A paycheck or bank balance
-A title, degree, or position
-Connections and “who you know”
-Control, overthinking, and constant hustle
-Approval, likes, and validation
Those things can be tools—but they were never meant to be your trust.
Heart Check – Where Do You Run First?
In this Psalm 20:7 devotional, you’ll be challenged to ask:
Where do I run first when pressure hits?
To worry? To overthinking? To people? To hustle?
You’ll be reminded that:
-If you run to worry, worry becomes your chariot.
-If you run to overthinking, control becomes your horse.
-If you run to people before prayer, people become your safety net.
David didn’t say chariots were useless—he said that’s not where our trust lives.
When Scripture says “the Name of the Lord,” it’s talking about God’s reputation, character, authority, and track record of faithfulness. When you say, “I trust the Name of the Lord,” you’re declaring:
-God is steady when life is shaky.
-God is faithful when people are fickle.
-God provides when resources run low.
-God defends when you feel attacked.
-God guides when you don’t know what to do next.
Your trust is not in what you can see—
your trust is in the One who sees what you can’t.
A Simple Monday Reset
Before you jump into your day:
Put your hand on your heart and say:
“Lord, I release my need to control.”
Open your hands and say:
“I release my fear, my pressure, and my timeline to You.”
Breathe and declare:
“I will trust You, Lord, step by step.”
Dr. Val also prays over you—asking God to calm your anxious mind, lift heaviness off your chest, and mark this week with favor, protection, and divine direction.
 Monday Call to Action
Write this down and keep it where you can see it today:
“My trust is in God—not in what I can control.”
