Written in the quiet hours of grief, missing my sweet momma today. Itās been exactly one year today that she gained her wings. and hereās what Iāve felt this past year..
Grief is about reflecting on memories madeāand no longer making them.
Grief is not a controlled emotion, but utter chaos.
Grief is an anger so hostile to your heart that you actually feel it break.
Grief is a sadness so deep that if one more tear were shed and caught, it could overflow the oceans.
Grief is survivalāone foot in front of the otherātrying to reach a destination of safety and peace.
Grief cannot be helped, only watched at times from the sidelines by the ones who love you most.
Grief pops up at the strangest timesāusually inconvenient onesāand makes you, and those around you, think youāre insane.
Grief feels like it will never end, and the truth is, it probably wonātāuntil someone is grieving you.
My words to the grieving heart:
Itās necessaryāso embrace the heart God gave you and be you.
Stop and feel.
The world will not stop revolving just because you need it to, so take the time to ābe still and know that God is God.ā
Reflect on things that bring you close to your loved one.
Speak their name.
See the wonders of nature that remind you of themāa soft breeze, a thunderstorm, a rain shower, a sunny day, a butterfly (my reminder), a cardinal, the stars, flowers.
Smile, cry, laugh, shareāand hold on to the hope of seeing them again when we get to Heaven.
One more thing: you may think you are the only one going through grief, but look around. It could be the person sitting beside you on a plane, the table next to you in a restaurant, the driver beside you at a stoplight, or the waiter taking your order.
So be kind. Be patient.
You never know who you may be blessing.
š¤ For anyone grieving todayāyou are not alone.
