Leander joins neighboring Central Texas cities in reconsidering its use of Flock surveillance cameras following community pushback. 📷

Leander Police Department had installed 14 automated license plate recognition cameras using federal grant funding, but an online petition gathered over 1,600 signatures calling for their removal.

After a public hearing that lasted past 1 a.m., City Council asked staff to suspend the police department's use of the license plate recognition technology. The decision follows similar moves by Pflugerville and Bastrop to address resident concerns about privacy and data access.
