17% of parents think their kids will go pro.

That is 1 in 5 parents.

In football, Millions, YES, MILLIONS of kids play youth football.

A much smaller percentage play high school football.

Nationwide, roughly 6–7% of high school players make college football (much less in the RGV)

About 1–2% of college players make the NFL roster level.

Overall, the estimated odds of a youth football player eventually reaching the NFL are ROUGHLY:

About 1 in 10,000 to 1 in 20,000
That’s around 0.005%–0.01%.

Parents, it is VERY difficult to get a chance to play professionally in sports, ANY SPORTS.

Teach your children to play for the love and fun of the game. If they are truly special, opportunities will come, otherwise let them enjoy the comradery and life lessons sports teaches. It lasts a lifetime.

"No Plays off"

One play off.

That’s all it takes.

One lazy pursuit.
One missed block.
One jog instead of a sprint.

Championship teams don’t take plays off.

Average teams do.

Effort isn’t seasonal.
It’s cultural.

What culture are you creating?

"Pressure"

You don’t rise to the occasion.

You fall to your preparation. Read that again.

Big games don’t create character.
They expose it.

When the whistle blows, and the lights come on…
when the crowd gets loud…

Who are you really?

Prepared — or pretending?

"Overlooked"

Every. single. year we hear it…

“My child is being overlooked.” No.

Your child is being outworked.

Effort shows up on the field.

Body language shows up on the field.

Conditioning shows up on the field.

Coaches don’t care about excuses.

They care about consistency, effort, and production.

Less complaining, more reps.

"Soft Parenting"

Here’s the truth nobody wants to say…

If your kid quits when it gets hard, that didn’t start at practice.

Football or any other sport exposes what home builds. Yes, at HOME.

Coaches teach discipline. But parents build resilience.

If you rescue your athlete from every hard moment, don’t be surprised when they fold under pressure or perhaps start "acting hurt" and making up excuses in order to hide when things get hard on the field.

Older generational parents were built on toughness.

Parents, are we still building that?

"Earned. Not Given."

You want more playing time? Earn it.

Not with hissy fits, tantrums, or talking badly about teammates.

Not with complaints.

Not with your parents texting the coach.

Earn it in drills.

Earn it in conditioning.

Earn it in practice.

Earn it when nobody’s filming.

Football or any other sport doesn’t care about feelings.

It rewards production. True coaches don’t hand out positions; they hand out opportunities, and you either take it… or someone else will. NOUGH SAID!

Has anyone experienced it this spring season? 👀

If so, reach out to me or air it out in the comments for people to see. No, I will not turn off comments. 💪🏽

Truth Tuesday: "Parents are hurting their athletes."

Truth: Youth and HS coaches notice sideline behavior.

Are Parents too involved? Are they helping or hurting their athletes?

Truth Tuesday: "The QB/RB obsession."

Truth: Linemen win titles.

Do we glorify one position too much in Youth/HS sports?

I believe some linemen are trying to transition to "backer" positions because the trench warriors have fallen by the wayside.
