BTS at Caribou Coffee in Minnesota!🎥☕️

For this project we had three production days total; two days in Minnesota and another down in Atlanta. Between the two trips, we captured a total of 6 interviews and a ton of footage of the Caribou staff working in a few of their locations.

We got so much accomplished with two very small crews and we are very excited to see all of the footage come together in the final piece.

Stay tuned for more content from this project!

Frames from my interview with .adaptfit

Solo shot this one! It was my first time using the FX6 and it was a game changer to run audio straight through the top handle. A lot of people love the FX6 for its internal ND but for me it’s the audio input and interface that really got me to pull the trigger on this camera.

Most people say what gear you use doesn’t matter but the FX6 just allows for a much more efficient work flow, especially for documentary work!

Toast on Tour goes to Dallas!

Over the last 30 days I have been on a lot of trips but specifically for Toast on Tour I have been to Tampa, San Fransisco and then I was just in Dallas this week. It’s been an absolute pleasure servicing these events and I’m very thankful to be hired for the entirety of the tour.

These events are extremely fast paced with a lot to cover, so efficiency is detrimental if I want to get the job done in the best way possible. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Sony FX3’s or any modern mirrorless cameras are essential. Things like good auto focus, internal body image stabilization and good low light performance are what will allow you to excel with your filming in any run and gun situation.

In terms of this tour, I have several more to go; Los Angeles, Phoenix, Boston, Chicago and Atlanta. Shoutout to for entrusting in my skills to take care of all of these events!

Interview Days🎬

By now I have had to of captured close to 500 interviews and I take a lot of pride in it. Interviews are a great and easy way to try new things whether it be trying out different angles with your subjects, different light fixtures or lighting setups; all of the above are extremely beneficial ways to expand your skills.

On this day we had 4 different setups across this office location; two of which I had the opportunity to photograph and share here on social media.

Gusto 501 in Toronto, Ontario🇨🇦

December 6, 2022, old but gold!

This was one of those gigs where we kept it very “run-n-gun”; no lighting for the B-Roll, a soft key light and a hard hair light for the interview. That “fly on the wall” type of production which is not easy when trying to produce something of high quality.

In these situations it can be very nerveracking to film with no control, no choreography, no plan; a lot of it comes down to the edit. With that being said, over the years, .matt and I have experienced these situations more often than not when it comes to filming in resturaunts. It’s a challenge but it’s a good challenge. You could honestly consider these types of gigs to be like “cinematography bootcamp”.

If you can snag good frames and sequences with good action, good exposure and good use of practical or natural light; you are doing it right. It takes practice and if you can do it, just imagine what could be done with full control.

Take pride in your run-n-gun filmmaking skills.

Birds Eye View Dana Dolly!🎥💪🏻

This type of camera rigging was a first for me; at first I lacked confidence with the idea of pulling off this shot but it ended up being easier than I had thought.

This was from a production for General Electrics and it was a blast to be a part of. I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone with a project on more of the commercial realm but it was extremely beneficial to experience and learn from.

Frames from Le Bab in London🇬🇧

This project was from all the way back in January of 2023 for Toast Tab. This was also my first time traveling overseas and I definitely will never forget this trip.

Over the course of this trip we had two productions and this one at Le Bab is still one of my favorite projects to this day.

3 years later and I’m still on the FX3’s

These cameras have changed the way I film forever. Everyone will praise the bigger and better cameras but ease of use will always be my priority.

Of course there are cameras with better quality but there is no way anyone can say the Sony FX3 doesn’t pack a punch. It has a fantastic color science, incredible dynamic range and the high native ISO of 12800 is mind blowing. These three factors are game changing for any cinematographer, both professional and entry level.

In addition to the FX3’s sensor performance, the Internal Body Image Stabilization and top of the line Auto Focus with the native G-Master lenses; these cameras make it effortless to film what you want, in the way you want it.

One trip, seven locations👏🏼

Back in November of 2024, I had the privilege of being on the road for 7 days in Boston with .matt working on a micro documentary piece for Toast.org and 3 case study interviews for Toast Tab.

Over the course of the 7 days, we filmed at 3 community serving food establishments, 3 resturaunts and the Toast headquarters.

The short documentary was an amazing project that showcases all that Toast.org and these community serving establishments do for the local area in Boston. We spent half-days at each establishment, starting with interviews, followed by B-Roll of what they do best and showing off their unique locations.

As for the resturaunts, we filmed sit down interviews with numerous staff members, managers and owners to discuss how Toast benefits their business. These case study type of interviews are something that we do more often than not so it was great to switch it up with a Toast.org docu-style project on the same trip.

These docu-style types of projects are exactly what I want to do more of and this year it’s my goal to make that a reality.

S/O to & .matt for hiring me to DP this amazing project.
