is in the discussion for course with the best views. Never ending views of Lake Michigan with fescue lined holes, big greens, and wide fairways. The clubhouse sits on a property high point overlooking the course and Lake Michigan where you can watch the players who couldn’t stay out of the fescue drag themselves across the 18th green 🏌🏼‍♂️⛳️

Over 400 acres of Crystal Downs inspired fun, created ! The soil here is glacier deposits so the course drains well over undulated terrain that grows tons of different natural plants that are challenging but fun to play around.

Crystal Downs offers it all. Pictured first, the 17th is the tightest hole on the course. Tree lined with sloping fairway it’s also one of the hardest. Some holes, although wide open, have strategic trees you must navigate around putting a premium on the tee shot. My first Alister MacKenzie course, hopefully not my last!

Being in the minority of golfers who love strategic trees that make you shape a shot off the tee, Sand Hills is easily my favorite treeless golf course. The scale of the place is massive and the big undulations in the fairways produce tons of blind shots if your tee shot isn’t precise. I have yet to find another golf course that produces this level of challenge off the tee without the use of trees.

Southampton Golf Club was founded in 1925 and it was designed by the famous golf course architect, Seth Raynor. Often overshadowed by its neighbors and small membership, it shouldn’t be over looked. Not only does it have all the template holes, it’s possible this may have been one of his few solo projects according to the plans in the clubhouse.

Somerset Hills Country Club has a rich history that dates back to the late 1800s. The club was founded by a group of golf enthusiasts who were looking for a place to play outside of New York City. The original course was designed by A.W. Tillinghast and opened in 1918. Over the years, the course has undergone several renovations and improvements, but it still maintains its classic design and challenging layout. Today, Somerset Hills is consistently ranked in the top 5 golf courses in NJ.

Every year there are course improvements to assure all the players are challenged but all can compete. It’s awesome to see some of the older guys like and Fred Couples playing on the weekend and the AM up there on the leaderboard! 🏌🏼‍♂️⛳️🇺🇸

Old Oaks CC was designed by AW Tillinghast in 1925 but then constructed by Charles Alison and Harry C**t. This Tillie flies under the radar due to being amongst some of the greats in Westchester County NY. Many improvements had been made to the facilities over the years but not much on the golf course. Deeper bunkers and a few tees for the long hitters but besides that a great Tillinghast design pretty much in tact.
