Following the May 19 election of new committee people, the 22nd Ward, led by Councilwoman Cindy Bass, sparked controversy over a voice vote to determine its leader. On Sunday night, June 14, the Philadelphia Democratic Party’s Contest Committee recommended a revote, to be overseen by the state Democratic Party’s committee on organization.

Following the May 19 election of new committee people, the 22nd Ward, led by Councilwoman Cindy Bass, sparked controversy over a voice vote to determine its leader.

Seventh and eighth graders at C.W. Henry School held a rally on June 3 to raise awareness about the effects of redlining policies on Philadelphia. Several notable figures attended, including state Rep. Chris Rabb, candidate for the state House of Representatives Chris Johnson, and the Rev. Gregory Holston of the 57 Block Coalition, an advocacy group against gun violence.

East Vincent Township supervisors denied a developer’s plan to build a 1.9 million-square-foot data center at the former site of the Pennhurst State School and Hospital on May 21. The vote followed months of public meetings and community opposition. The battle isn’t over, as the developer plans to appeal the township’s decision.
