In 2009, Venus and Serena Williams transcended the world of tennis to etch their names into NFL history as the first Black women to own a stake in an NFL team.

Their acquisition of a minority share in the Miami Dolphins not only marked a milestone in sports ownership but also symbolized the expanding influence of Black women in high-stakes business arenas.

What began as a $1.2 billion enterprise in 2009 has since flourished, with the Dolphins’ valuation soaring to $4.6 billion by 2022. Yet, this venture was just one facet of the Williams sisters’ empire.

Venus expanded into fashion, wellness, and plant-based nutrition, while Serena carved her path as a venture capitalist, backing innovative startups and even investing in women’s soccer.
