Press Release from Salsay Weyane Tigray
Tigray continues to endure multiple, interconnected crises, with the political crisis at their core. The ongoing failure to move toward a full and meaningful transition from the current fragile security and constitutional situation-where the people of Tigray remain without a representative government and daily life is shaped by armed actors-has contributed significantly to this suffering.
Instead of responding to the pain and legitimate concerns of the people of Tigray, the Government of Ethiopia has repeatedly overlooked calls to take concrete steps toward implementing the peace agreement and restoring constitutional order. These steps are essential for rebuilding trust, restoring dignity, and enabling the reconstruction of Tigray. Meanwhile, restoring territorial integrity of Tigray along with the voices of millions of internally displaced Tigrayans and refugees, who long for safety and a return to normal life, remain unheard.
As fears of renewed conflict and further militarization grow, hope continues to fade-particularly among displaced persons and refugees who wish to return to their homes. Equally troubling is the absence of clear assurances that the grave violations of the past will not be repeated.
Although commitments have been made to hold national general elections this year, meaningful actions to make these promises a reality-especially in Tigray-have yet to materialize.
Salsay Weyane Tigray expresses deep concern over the worsening political and security conditions and the apparent lack of urgency in addressing them. We respectfully urge all concerned stakeholders to renew their attention, act with responsibility and compassion, and take meaningful steps toward peace, justice, and lasting stability for the people of Tigray.
