Start the school year off right by practicing basic routines before school begins to ensure mastery.

For example, the mastery of the morning routine could allow for time to participate in other events or special activities, like getting to go to the library or see friends before the school day begins. Mastering academic skills could open up a world of possibilities, like participating in after-school programs, sports, music, and the arts.

Remember when a routine has not been practiced, it simply will not happen. Praise your child when expectations are met. When routines are followed, your child and the whole family win.

Bruhat won the 2024 national spelling bee after his third try. To prepare for the contest, he practiced daily, just like he did with his Kumon work. He says Kumon taught him about goal setting and how to work hard toward reaching his goals whether that was achieving a new Kumon level or winning the spelling bee. Bruhat’s dream is to go to medical school and become a doctor. Learn more:
