Big Mama's Recording has combined forces with the folks behind Hi-5 Recording to bring you JAMTOWN. Founded in the storied location of the great punk studios of old, Big Mama's Recording opened its doors in 2015 and unfortunately had to close them for reasons beyond our control in 2020. After a brief stint in Philadelphia's Second Street Music, Evan and Chris were approached by Ben Riesman (Hi-5 R
ecording, MAAS Building) to combine forces and bring you JAMTOWN. JAMTOWN is located inside the brand new JAMS building located at 2426 Germantown Ave. You can think of JAMS and JAMTOWN as the continued ethos of Big Mama's; JAMS is home to multiple practice spaces and personal studios for folks within Philadelphia's vibrant music community. Same great people, same great community, brand new TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SPACE. Come check it out!
Back at it again next Wednesday the 19th with Jamtown's legendary ping pong night. Beers buds pong. If you have tracks you need drumming done on bring the session or a bounce and either could do it, or anybody else who wants to. Heck, you can bring your own drummer. House kit will be set up, mic'd up and ready to rip. Message us if you've got any questions!
How about: Come to Jamtown Studio's Open House Wednesday, 11/2 4pm - 10pm. Celebrate the launch of the Jamtown Studio: Free beer, chill hangs, low stakes ping pong, and a mini ramp in the back. AND Free Drum Tracking! Whaaat? We'll have drums and mics set up: Bring a song (stereo bounce / scratch track or bring an instrument) and we'll track drums to it, you keep the files.

The space is located in a building called JAMS located at 2426 Germantown Ave. It's still got the arts and community vibe from the warehouse - there are multiple practice spaces and a halfpipe out back!! As the semen dried on my belly, I sat back and reflected. If I hurried I would be able to scrape it from myself and put its vile, salty potency to goodly work in my latest endeavor. It may be the just the offering that the Priestess needed to taint the color of my idée fixe from white to red. “Beat it creep,” the words echoed in my mind, reverberating endlessly into a mortifying cacophony. Though it had provided some vague hint of stirring delight deep in my loins I knew that I must forego the cauldron of desires for that of black magic pragmatism. As mores of the time dictated I must “procure” an es**rt (regardless of the currency implemented) in order to gain entry into the Fish Under the Sea Dance. Oedipal overtones be damned! Only she would do. It would be there that I could complete my mission in full. Too many attempts on Cobain’s life had been thwarted in the past (or future, I could no longer keep track). A different tack must be charted. Sextant in hand I plotted not to eradicate a mere practitioner of the devil’s music, but the creator itself. No dear listener, not “He,” the fallen earth angel of divine individuality, base pleasure, light, and knowledge - Saintan. (It would be his dark wisdom I needed to complete the task at hand). It would be the nameless, guitar-wielding entity of Marvin Berry and the Starlighters that my sights would be set upon. That mythical white shadow that delivered upon us a perfect youth culture movement that proved to be ripe and ready for amalgamation by the parasites that slithered forth from its afterbirth of a nation. I would need to be swift if my hands were to act before he spake those now famous words, “Alright guys. This is a ‘Blues Riff in B’. Watch me for the changes and try to keep up.”

The brand new album is out today! I think as far as punk music goes I have not heard a band with as much energy or emotion touching on important subjects in such a palatable way in so so so very long. This record is unbelievable. Congrats to them! Listen on all streaming platforms!

Introducing another addition to the big mama's percission family: the brilliant Yaiba! Many of you may know just how much Japanese music i listen to, and when researching the records I love the name Canopus Yaiba came up over and over. It was no mistake, this is exactly the sound of the drums I fell in love with. The brightness of the birch provides tremendous attack, whereas the thicker shell size and longer kick drum dimensions allow for it to sing in a way nothing else i have ever heard sings. I can't wait for y'all to try it out!!

Very happy to announce our buds in have released their new EP into the world today. I love workin with a band who shows up to the studio and says "what do you want to f**k around with today?" Every session was an open forum where, if somebody had an idea we'd follow it to the end of the rabbit hole whether we kept it or not. I think this EP is a great representation of a great starting point enhanced by positively reinforcing collaboration. Great job Jeremy and Jesse. This will be on all major platforms soon enough. Big Nothing put out yet another single from the "Chris" sessions we did out in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. One of my favourites. Every single song that band has ever written is a hit.

It took a few years but Jouska’s “Visions from the Bridge” is finally out! A truly excellent and unique record that carves out its own voice in the sonic pallet of shoe gaze. Congrats to my dudes @tagabowphl and @shrimp_and_chardonnay If you loved those @spiritofthebeehive records we did you’ll love this. We recorded it at Big Mama’s Recording four years ago, finished mixing it at Jamtown Recording Studio this year, dumped it to tape at @xgregmendezx house, and then I mastered it at my mixing suite. The relatively winding path this album took to release feels like a parallel journey to our return as a recording studio. It’s significant to me to see this out there, so take a listen!
