Hurricane will remain offshore, though significant wave heights and rip currents will be felt up and down the entire coast from FL to ME. Swells will begin to reach the Northeast region’s shores by tomorrow.

TROPICAL STORM ERIN has formed off Cape Verde, post significant risk for US East Coast next week.
There is high uncertainty remaining the exact path this storm will take. It does , however, remain clear we will likely be observing a very intense hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean next week.

Attached is the latest ECMWF longer-range model guidance through 240 hours. Expect the track and intensity to change.

While I am optimistic the storm is likely to remain offshore; veering out to sea before reaching the US coast, a lot can change between now and next week. Stay tuned for the latest...

Isolated strong-to-severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening across a wide swath of the I-95 corridor from D.C. to NYC. Expect torrential downpours, difficulty driving dude to low visibility, strong gusty winds and the threat for small hail from the stronger storms.

Lightning strikes increase in frequency as coastal low intensifies offshore - this is the culprit for unseasonably cool temps and rain being experienced throughout the region. Storm will dominate the regional pattern for the next few days, expect blustery and cool conditions for the upcoming memorial day holiday weekend.

Strong wind gusts associated with an incoming cold front are expected this evening for parts of the northern mid-Atlantic, generally from DC through southeastern Pennsylvania, into New Jersey and southern New York:

NOAA NWS Storm Prediction Center: “Thunderstorm development is expected within the next
couple of hours across parts of the Mid-Atlantic region. The
convective environment should support a damaging wind threat into
the evening hours. Trends will be monitored for possible watch
issuance. Areas affected...Northern Virginia into central Maryland...southeast
Pennsylvania...and northwest New Jersey”
