With his win over Canelo Alvarez tonight at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Terence "Bud" Crawford may have cemented his place as the best pound-for-pound fighter of his generation. He is now the undisputed champion in a third weight class. Crawford is now the undisputed super middleweight (168 lbs) champion. He has also won the same title at super lightweight (140 lbs) and welterweight (147 lbs). A fight that many people thought would be too big for Canelo turned out to be the biggest and maybe best night of Crawford's Hall of Fame career. The judges gave Crawford (42-0, 31 KO) the win by scores of 115-113, 115-113, and 116-112. Unofficially, Bad Left Hook gave the Omaha native the win with scores of 116-112 and 117-111. Crawford, who is 37 years old, was just a stronger boxer in the ring. This made Canelo (63-3-2, 39 KO) angry and made it such that the Mexican superstar never had full control of the battle. Crawford used his legs well and was able to hold his own against Canelo, choosing the right times to turn up the heat. Canelo had a hard time cutting off the ring against an opponent that could move around more. This time, though, he was getting hit back, and a lot of them. He just couldn't figure out the Crawford riddle, and no one else has been able to accomplish it yet. "I have to take my hat off to Canelo; he's a great champion." Crawford replied, "He's a strong competitor," as if he were channeling vintage Floyd Mayweather interviews. "I have nothing but respect for Canelo. I really admire Canelo, and he fought like a champion today. After that, Max Kellerman asked Crawford in a dramatic way if this would be his last fight, and Crawford basically said he didn't want to talk about it. Canelo remarked, "I feel great," after the loss. "Being here makes me a winner." There is no loss here. I've done everything in my job. "I take risks." Kellerman asked Canelo if he wanted to fight again, and Canelo answered, "I love to share the ring with great fighters like him." It will be amazing if we do it again. I feel good and strong. Crawford is a really good boxer. Of course, I give him credit. "But I still feel great; I feel the same as always."
