Love Now Media’s editorial team attended the ‘No Arena’ rally held in Center City on September 7th. People came from all over the city to voice their opposition to the $1.55 Billion arena. Crowds gathered in rain-soaked ‘No Arena’ shirts to belt, sing, and shout their support for the enduring legacy of Philly’s Chinatown, a community that has taken hit after hit but never once stood down. Allies such as members of the Apache Stronghold, Save U.C. Townhomes Coalition, Power Interfaith, and more spoke during the speaking session, amplifying their support for the movement. As Love Now Media works to uplift the voices of those most urgently seeking justice, wellness, and equity, we share these images to shine a light on those in Chinatown raising their voices to preserve the culture and history of Chinatown. For more information, please visit https://noarenaphl.org/

These pictures, captured by renowned photographer Joe Piette, tell the story of a community coming together to protect its own.

Jeffrey’s journey as a choreographer and artist is as remarkable as the work he brings to the stage. A graduate of the University of the Arts, which recently closed its doors, announcing it just six days after awarding him an honorary doctorate, Jeffrey’s career has been marked by a commitment to both excellence and social justice. His work has taken him from Indianapolis, Indiana, to the global stage, where he has choreographed for some of the most influential artists in the world, including a 16-year collaboration with Beyoncé as part of her creative team.

Despite his success, Jeffrey remains deeply connected to the roots of his art. “It’s strange,” he reflected. “I’ve gone from being an African dancer in Indianapolis to a Broadway director, from choreographing for television and film to receiving two honorary doctorates. Yet, I’m still running the race of my life, still deeply committed to this work.”

The closure of the University of the Arts, where Jeffrey received his undergraduate degree in dance, is a stark reminder of the challenges facing arts education and the cultural landscape in general. “This has never happened in the history of America,” he said. “A university going from a commencement ceremony to complete closure in just six days. It’s an indicator of where we are as a society, underscoring the importance of the work we’re doing now.”

When you consider some of the more high-profile ways artificial intelligence has gone rogue, it might leave you wondering if the technology is truly ready for prime time.

There was the time an AI chatbot professed its love for a journalist and tried to get him to leave his wife. Or when a different AI chatbot designed to help small businesses in New York City advised business owners to break the law and ignore worker protection rules.

This film shows us what love looks like when it's put into action in the midst of turmoil and uncertainty. It's not just warm feelings and kind words. It's empowerment. It's education. It's standing up and speaking out, even when your voice shakes.

Bumi Fernandez-West () describes Odunde as 'her little sister' because that’s how long it has been part of her life. Fernandez West was a year old when her mother, the South Philly activist and visionary Lois Fernandez, hatched the idea for Odunde, meaning “happy new year” in the Yoruba language, in 1972 after witnessing the Oshun Festival for the Yoruba people in Oshogo, Nigeria. Three years later, Fernandez and her friend, Ruth Arthur, launched the first festival.

Almost 50 years later, we celebrate , and all of the incredible programs they run throughout the year that bring joy, love and legacy to the city of Philadelphia.
