From $50K music videos with 82+ million views to Netflix sets to yesterday's shoot...the pattern finally clicked.
I picked up my first camera at 17.
Had no idea what I was doing.
Just knew I wanted to make things that were eternal.
Nothing fancy.
A bunch of friends and some scrappy ideas.
Started producing commercials for local businesses in college.
Then the music video happened.
$50K budget.
82,673,702 views later, I thought I'd figured it out.
Netflix sets in NY, here I come.
Bigger budgets.
Bigger names.
Bigger egos.
Something was missing from my dream...
Yesterday was back to basics.
17-hour shoot with Motti Flikshtein, "From Rapper to Rabbi".
Just me, Phil, Rob, and Motti who performs maybe 10-15 shows a year.
Different lighting setups.
Long day turning into longer night.
Then we hit the crescendo.
Motti performing his song.
Flashing lights everywhere.
Camera work that would make Spike Jonze proud.
And I saw it.
In his eyes.
He wasn't just seeing a video come together.
He was seeing possibility.
That's when it hit me.
All these years, I thought I was chasing Oscars.
Turns out I was chasing something else entirely.
It's that moment.
When someone sees their story, like really sees it, for the first time.
The collaboration.
The co-creation.
(I see this same transformation in my Spotlight Sessions (shameless plug!) that exact moment when someone realizes their expertise deserves a bigger stage.)
Here's what I've learned:
The how and the what matter.
But only if they're connected to your why.
My why?
Helping people find their voice.
Creating experiences where stories come alive.
Some days it's flashy lights and 17-hour shoots.
Other days it's a simple conversation that unlocks everything.
The mission stays the same:
Help real people tell real stories that connect them to their real tribe.
What if your story is exactly what someone needs to see?
I'm not winning Oscars yet.
(Though that would be cool.)
But I'm doing something better.
I'm helping people win at being themselves.
