Miner Street Recordings Owned by producer Brian McTear (founder of Weathervane's Shaking Through) and musician, engineer and artist, Amy Morrissey.

The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, Sharon Van Etten, Waxahatchee, + In 1996, Miner Street made the move from McTear's college living room at 112 E. Miner Street, West Chester, Pennsylvania to 128 Krams Avenue in Philadelphia's Manayunk neighborhood. In 1999, there was another move - across the street to what was then "Cycle Sound Studios" with owner and live sound engineer, Gary Ferenchak. The "merger"

put Miner Street's growing clientele together with Cycle Sound's much larger room and coveted vintage gear collection. It was a match made in heaven, and a partnership that lasts to this day. And at a time in which the entertainment industry underwent dramatic changes, when most studios did not survive, Miner Street Recordings actually thrived. (We are very proud of that little detail.) In September 2005, Miner Street Recordings moved to Norris Street in Philadelphia's Fishtown neighborhood, just blocks away from McTear's and Morrissey's home. Long before the revitalization of Fishtown, Miner Street was one of the first creative enterprises to explore the neighborhood's potential. Over a decade has passed, and today we find ourselves thankfully located right in the middle of the best live music venues, restaurants, art galleries and more. Recording clients from out of town are welcome to enjoy recording in Fishtown, by taking advantage of Miner Street's simple but cozy apartment space (complete with bathroom, shower, kitchen) that comfortably sleeps 3 - 4 people for weeks at a time. Miner Street Recordings has long supported the music community that gives it life, and is perhaps best-recognized as the studio setting for the non-profit Weathervane Music's Shaking Through documentary recording series, from an organization and series that McTear co-created at the beginning of The Great Recession in early 2009. Weathervane's work has brought incredibly talented and enthusiastic artists to Miner Street Recordings, including members of The War on Drugs, Dr. Dog, Grizzly Bear, Wilco, Sufjan Stevens, Sharon Van Etten, Strand of Oaks, Waxahatchee, and many others.

All recent , Magus and of course on the brain has naturally led to digging out this incredible record. recorded Seasons on Earth for in 2011. Of course it’s packed with the beauty and exceptional brilliance that is Meg through and through, yet the only pics we know of are these 5 or 6 quick smartphone images - and in the dreaded “Hipstamatic Era”, no less. Brian took them looking from the control room at Meg (in profile) who was singing and playing guitar live in the piano room. If only there were a few pics of the people she was performing with live to tape… She was undoubtedly looking right at them through the sliding glass door, even in these shots. It could have been the late Marc Orleans on pedal steel and dobro, or on guitar, or perhaps one of the songs she recorded with on harp. If only there were more pics. Regardless, we are ever grateful. There are a handful of things learned and/or lessons taken away from Meg’s exemplary discipline and talent that do get retold year after year. Thanks, Meg (Philadelphia misses you).

“It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times…. “ May 2006 pics taken by .is.back at and ’s brand new, sparsely furnished and equipped miner street recordings in Music = said photographer’s band the A-sides, lovingly recorded w/ with and recorded at our previous studio in manayunk (but hopefully that is ok). This picture illustrates many things, not the least of which is how long it would be before Brian was even remotely photogenic. Not perfect but a little progress nonetheless. -sides

One of the great pleasures of the past 8 months or so has been working w on his many new and revamped projects. Greg’s best known for the luminary psychedelic folk band in the early 2000s, but in late 2024   and mixed his long lost Grass collaboration with that they had waiting in the can for 15 years! In April, we recorded drums w/ all the way from Paris FR for Greg’s new 8 song Magus project with plus another 11 songs for Greg’s solo record - THEN we mixed all 19 tracks! He says there’re no fewer than 2-3 other projects on the way. Such a brilliant community… Miner Street is honored to be on its periphery.
PS. Hey , and … new Espers?

We really just want this to happen somewhere else… from ‘neath the thumbs of titans, to a simpler, better place. Be the people, not the product. Love, and (ps. Ever grateful the songs we produced decades ago would continue to voice the struggle so well. Mazarin = . You can also find them over yonder.)

Please share? Like the pic says. Today would have been our last day (and tomorrow would have been a very very different day than it will be). We only really found out about our extended horizon a couple weeks ago, so scrambling to catch up…. But a happy scramble it is. (Apologies for the cheep shot pic of here. It happened).

ONE OF PHILADELPHIA'S MOST CHERISHED RECORDING STUDIOS

Miner Street Recordings is owned by Brian McTear, a life-long musician, record producer, educator and music community activist, and Amy Morrissey, a musician, engineer and artist. In 1996, Miner Street made the move from McTear's college living room at 112 E. Miner Street, West Chester, Pennsylvania to 128 Krams Avenue in Philadelphia's Manayunk neighborhood. The "merger" put Miner Street's growing clientele together with Cycle Sound's much larger room and coveted vintage gear collection. It was a match made in heaven, and a partnership that lasts to this day. And at a time in which the entertainment industry underwent dramatic changes, when most studios did not survive, Miner Street Recordings actually thrived. (We are very proud of that little detail.)

In September 2005, Miner Street Recordings moved to Norris Street in Philadelphia's Fishtown neighborhood, just blocks away from McTear's and Morrissey's home.
