An amazing review by Bad Moon Review , 3.8 out of 5 for Misfits.
When a group of friends is jarred by the passing of one of their own, they pull together to show that as they’ve grown, they too have grown into a family.
Starring Sam Meola (Army of the Dead), Kat Reeves (Crimson Carnations), Christian Levens (Roxy Tyler’s House of Horrors), Ceecee Simone (Two Steps back), Jacob Burke (The Audition [Short), Russell Levin (Jada), and Carlie Ann Kauffman (Misfits).
In this second coming of age heart felt dramatic comedy, a widowed father loses his wife to a life long progressive disease. When the chips fall down his childhood friends come in to help him pick up the pieces to help save his house and his family’s Christmas.
Done by independent film writer and director Kris McMenamin with a solid cast of actors brings his holiday film to life. They bring the story of a group of friends that have known each other for more than half their lives and that have history both good and ugly with each other, are more of a second family then you realize.
The acting of Sam Meola had me tearing up a bit at times, while balanced out by the comical timing of Christian Levens immediately had me chuckling at times as well. The on screen chemistry of the three friends Meola, Levens and Burke, truly felt that these three have known each other more than 10 yrs. In addition the dynamic between Meola and his oldest daughter (Carlie Ann Kauffman) felt earnest in when a family loses a parent.
With the film being an independent film it's sound and editing was pretty professional, there’s no wide zoom corrections or boom mics visible that’s always troupe for these types of films. Pacing at times was little bit rough but it also really helped to sell the story and let you feel as how Meolas character felt just stuck.
The writing was very good, especially at selling the characters. The finale was pretty amazing, in the sense it was very “It’s a Wonderful Life”-esque. But this film may just find a spot on your holiday watch list!
Overall:
I give “Misfits: The Film” a score of 3.8/5 ☠️
Truly a great heartfelt holiday dramatic comedy, on screen chemistry is spot on just the pacing in the initial setup was the only bump in road, other than that the film definitely has a home in the holiday bracket.
