Most people think hackers only break into computers using complicated code. But the truth is scarier β sometimes they don't hack the computer at all. They hack YOU. This is called Social Engineering, and it is one of the most dangerous types of cyberattacks today.
π What Is Social Engineering?
Social engineering is when a criminal tricks a person into giving away private information, money, or access β instead of breaking through security systems. They use psychology, not programming. They play with emotions like fear, trust, urgency, or curiosity to manipulate people into making mistakes.

This is a targeted attack. Instead of sending the same message to thousands of people, the attacker researches a specific person β like a company employee or manager β and sends a personalized, convincing message to trick just them.

Here, the attacker creates a fake story or scenario to gain your trust. For example, someone may call pretending to be from IT support, saying they need your password to "fix an urgent issue" on your account.

This attack uses temptation. It could be a free USB drive left in a public place, or an ad that says "You won a free iPhone, claim now!" Curiosity or greed makes people click or plug in the bait β and that's when malware gets installed.

This means "something for something." The attacker offers a fake service or reward in exchange for information. For example, pretending to be tech support offering free help, only to ask for your login details in return.

These attacks are dangerous because they don't rely on breaking through firewalls or antivirus software. They rely on human emotions β fear, urgency, trust, and curiosity. Even smart and careful people can fall for a well-designed scam if it catches them at the right emotional moment.
