When I first meet Bill Mills he was as surprised and humored as everyone else in the room. I was getting together “Sounds of Liberation”with the sole remaining members,of which there were five, to discuss a tape that I had recently found in drummer Dwight James basement. I played them the recently transferred tape to discuss song titles and credits, and talk to them about the idea of putting out this new record 50 years after it was originally recorded. After that meeting, I sat down individually with every one of the members to get more history of their careers in music. I asked Billy when I met him at his house if he had ever played on any other records besides SOL, with the exception of his more recently formed bands, he mentioned a recording session at Virtue Studios while he was still in high school. with classmates, the Falana Brothers, Bill tried to describe to me this song, something about the Moon landing, or a man on the moon or just space related.. I jokingly said “Mooney Moon - What About Mars?” And his eyes widened and he said YES!! That was it.. my jaw dropped and I am still to this day in awe of his performance on that little know record.. please go to YouTube and search the title.. you won’t be sorry. Rest Well my friend. 👑

After a super long day on minimal sleep - and several weeks of researching and gathering pics/video/info it felt great to see this thing drop.. no more holding it in - it’s out there for the world to know.. it kind of feels weird being one of maybe 20 (over the course of 50 years) total to know what these things sound like. Like, Win & Fascination in my brain sounds different than what the world knows.. and FAME has such a deeper backstory now, I know how it has evolved FootStompin>Saint>Fame - crazy. The team (myself .aaron & ) have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this ride so far… but it ain’t over yet. Thank you to & as well as & the for handling this with care. There’s more… but for now I’m enjoying my time with this guy. ☝️☝️

What a year #2024 turned out to be. Lots of picking myself up, dusting off and moving forward unsure as to where I was going. These humans have been there for me the entire way. I’ve struggled at times to be there for them, but somehow we are all still standing, together. Sometimes my frustration takes over and I realize how unproductive it makes me, it paralyzes me.. but I’ve learned to move past it quickly enough because my ADHD (self diagnosed after watching my son’s growth & development) won’t let me wallow deep down.. I’ve always bounced back, landed on my feet, made the best out of a sh*tty situation, but man - that gets tiring after a while, and as the older I get the harder it becomes.. I waited to post this one day 1 because I want to know I’ve made it, my family has made it through. We are going to hike to the top of a mountain today. Exactly what I want to do to start this new year.. but I’ve realized my number one goal for myself is to follow through on the many projects I’ve got myself into, that’s my personnel wish this year. I’m juggling a lot with little to no return at this point - but I keep telling myself “it’ll all be worth it” - and this I truly believe.

Yesterday it all seemed to be working, the sun was shining, people were out and my 4 year old put up with me walking around the taking photo’s of old dusty album covers inspired by the tall columns that hold up the museum walls. This early 90’s group (Electric Nubians)lead by Philly music historian (my mentor of sorts) D. Louis Brown AKA Philly Dave Brown - he is legendary for so many things, including being the drummer for Boston area punk band (also finding the instrumental (TV track) acetate for Ain’t Got The Love in turn solidifying that song’s sample history, a nod to yesterdays post) told me this album cover was directly inspired from The Ambassadors album cover 🙏❤️🔥- so much synergy. Happy Nee Year ya’ll - ❤️❤️❤️

Starting a new series for the new year.. a lot of records you may not know, some you may.. but I’ve been trying to figure out how to show the world the music I collect and love in the city I love. I know this concept has been done (nod to ) however we will be doing local Philly bands and their locations. Let’s see how it goes.. up first the 1969 release The Ambassadors - Soul Summit - I couldn’t think of a better place to start, late 60’s Philly Soul taken in the most iconic of places in the 215th - - The late Hurley Johnson & his Ambassaors become most well known for their penned “Ain’t Got The Love” sampled by
