Understanding the Gospel

Text: 1 Corinthians 15:1–4

In today’s passage, Apostle Paul reminds the Corinthians of the message that lies at the very heart of the Christian faith; the gospel. Some believers had begun to lose sight of foundational truths, so Paul brings them back to the message they first received. The gospel is not simply good advice for better living; it is the good news of what Christ has done for us through His death, burial, and resurrection. This message remains the believer’s foundation, hope, and assurance of salvation.

Here are three truths from today’s passage

1. The gospel is the foundation upon which we stand.
“This is the gospel you heard and in which you have taken your stand.” The Christian life is built on the gospel. We are saved through the gospel. It is not merely the starting point of faith but the truth that sustains us daily. In a world full of shifting opinions and uncertainty, believers are called to remain grounded in the unchanging message of Christ. When our lives are rooted in the gospel, we find stability, assurance, and direction.

2. Salvation comes through holding firmly to the gospel.
“By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you.” Genuine faith continues to cling to Christ and His truth. Paul is not speaking of a temporary emotional response, but of steadfast trust in the finished work of Jesus. The gospel is not something we casually admire; it is a truth we embrace wholeheartedly and continue to believe through every season of life and till the end of life.

3. The heart of the gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.
“That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” Paul clearly summarizes the gospel in these verses. Jesus died for our sins. He was buried and on the third day, He resurrected. The resurrection is our assurance that sin has been defeated and new life is available to all who believe. Christianity stands on the risen Christ.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, thank You for the gospel of Jesus Christ; His death, burial, and resurrection for my salvation. Help me to stand firmly in this truth and live each day with faith, gratitude, and hope in You. Also help me to be a vessel to spread the gospel to folks around me.

Order That Honors God
Text: 1 Corinthians 14:20–40

In today’s passage, Apostle Paul continues to address the Corinthians’ worship gatherings. Their services were passionate but chaotic; full of noise, overlapping voices, and spiritual expression without structure. Paul is showing them that the Spirit works through order, clarity, and peace. Worship should lift hearts, not confuse them. It should reveal Christ, not distract from Him.

Here are three truths from today’s passage
1. Maturity means choosing what brings clarity, not confusion. “Stop thinking like children… in your thinking be adults.” Paul urges them toward spiritual maturity. Childlike zeal is beautiful, but childish disorder is not. Maturity asks, Does this help others see Christ? When our gatherings are shaped by clarity, people are strengthened. When they are shaped by confusion, people are unsettled.

2. Worship should help unbelievers see God clearly. “If an unbeliever… comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin.” Paul imagines a visitor entering the gathering. What will they experience – confusion or clarity? Prophecy, with its understandable and Spirit led encouragement, reveals God’s presence. Order in worship helps others encounter God without distraction.

3. God is a God of peace, and our worship should reflect His nature. “For God is not a God of disorder but of peace.” Worship should mirror God’s character. It should be characterized with peace, clarity and reverence not confusion, chaos and noise. When each person participates with humility and self control, the whole gathering becomes a place where God’s presence is felt, and His people are built up.
Pray with me: Dear Lord, please shape my worship and my life with Your peace. Please help me contribute to gatherings that reveal Your presence and strengthen Your people.

Gifts That Build Up
Text: 1 Corinthians 14:1–19

In today’s passage, Apostle Paul speaks to the Corinthians about the practical use of spiritual gifts. Their gatherings had become noisy, impressive, and confusing; full of expression but lacking clarity. Paul reminds them that the purpose of every gift is to strengthen the church. Love shapes how we use our gifts and love always seeks what builds others up.

Here are three truths from today’s passage
1. Love directs us toward what helps others grow. “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit.” Love should be the guide for how we use spiritual gift. It is good to desire spiritual gifts. But we must do so for the sake of others. Love keeps our motives pure and ensures our gifts become channels of grace, not displays of ability.

2. Clarity strengthens the church more than impressiveness. “The one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.” The Corinthians prized tongues because they felt supernatural and dramatic, but Paul redirects them. The most valuable gift in a gathering is the one that brings understanding. Prophecy, Spirit led speech that strengthens, encourages, and comforts, builds the church because it reaches the heart with clarity.

3. Our aim in worship is to bless others, not to impress them. “In the church I would rather speak five intelligible words… than ten thousand words in a tongue.” Five clear words that help someone grow are worth more than ten thousand impressive words no one understands. Worship is not performance. Ministry is not spectacle. The goal is simple: help others see Christ more clearly.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, please teach me to use every gift you have given me with love. Make my words simple, sincere and full of grace so that others are built up in You.

Love is the Greatest
Text: 1 Corinthians 13:1–13

In today’s passage, Apostle Paul shows the Corinthians the “most excellent way.” Gifts, service and knowledge matter. But without love, all of it collapses. Paul is he is describing a way of life shaped by Christ Himself. Love is the atmosphere in which every gift, every act, and every believer must live.

Here are three truths from today’s passage.
1. Without love, even our greatest gifts lose their meaning. “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong.” Giftedness without love is empty. Eloquence, knowledge, generosity or sacrifice carry no eternal weight if love is absent. Love is the foundation of the Christian life.

2. Love reshapes our character into the likeness of Christ. “Love is patient, love is kind… it keeps no record of wrongs.” Love is not in emotion but in action, it is a steady, self giving posture. This is the love Christ shows us: patient with our weakness, kind in our failures, faithful in our wandering. Love is the slow, daily work of becoming more like Him.

3. Love outlasts every gift because it reflects God’s heart. “Prophecies… tongues… knowledge… will pass away. But love never fails.” Spiritual gifts are temporary tools for a temporary world. Love, however, is eternal. It is the language of heaven, the character of God, and the mark of His people. Faith and hope are essential, but love stands above them because it is the very nature of God.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, please teach me to walk in love. Shape my words, my actions, and my attitudes so they reflect Your heart.
