THE BLACK FURS – THE MAYHEM YEARS!!!!!!
HELTER SKELTER PRODUCTIONS (distributed & marketed by REGAIN RECORDS) is proud to reissue THE BLACK FURS' cult debut album, Doomed Blues, on CD, vinyl, and cassette tape formats.
THE BLACK FURS are the very definition of a CULT band. Hailing from Argentina, the power trio may residually reside in the same stoner doom scene that has given us such heavyweights as FULANNO, MESPHISTOFELES, SAHARA, THE CROOKED WHISPERS, SERPENT COBRA, and EN LA NIEBLA - all bands within the orbit of HELTER SKELTER now, of course - but THE BLACK FURS dub their sonic style "Death Blues," and for good reason: often doomy and most definitely stoned, sure, but there's a grand helping of garage rock gurgling within their soupy cauldron. Think more Nebula or MC5 rather than Electric Wizard or Sleep, but of course with that uniquely Argentinian twist.
Originally released in 2016, Doomed Blues was the first full-length BLACK FURS recording - and it was truly titled. Scorched and sizzling, there was a richly throwback vibe of this 52-minute travelogue. Part psychedelic Stooges, part '90s garage rock revival of '60s garage rock, and a love of Sabbath by way of Sleep, Doomed Blues threw in everything that was at the power trio's disposal, often going for overload and always succeeding in stoning the f**k outta the listener. Despite its title and their "Death Blues" demi-tag, Doomed Blues nevertheless possessed an endearing sense of fun: that grit, grime, and glory of raw-as-f**k ROCK. Thankfully, THE BLACK FURS would keep this relatively sunnier disposition intact and make a whole thrill-seeking (and still-going) catalog out of it.
HELTER SKELTER will now be bringing THE BLACK FURS' back catalog to a wider scale with a full reissue program, all in anticipation of the band's brand-new third album, which should see release next year.

Originally released in 2019, Stereophonic Freak Out Vol.1 was THE BLACK FURS' second album - a decidedly darker, more traditionally stoner-doomed affair. Just three years prior, they'd released their Doomed Blues debut full-length, which showed their true garage-rockin' side to its fullest, but the interim years - as well as the handful of short-lengths - must've been some hard ones, as what emerged on Stereophonic Freak Out Vol. 1 really, truly encapsulated their self-appointed "Death Blues" style: everything rumbled heavier than before, the doom got more DOOMED, songs stretched to much-more-STONED lengths, and the blues was palpable. Nevertheless, if this was THE BLACK FURS at their most conventionally stoner doom, then it still possessed the charisma and charm to elevate the band above a crowded scene.
HELTER SKELTER will now be bringing THE BLACK FURS' back catalog to a wider scale with a full reissue program, all in anticipation of the band's brand-new third album, which should see release next year.

While THE BLACK FURS have released two albums so far - 2016's Doomed Blues and 2019's Stereophonic Freak Out Vol.1, both of which will be reissued worldwide by HELTER SKELTER - they've released a hefty amount of short-length releases, ranging from EPs to demos to splits to even digital singles. And, as most/all of those short-lengths are stand-alone releases, they thus exhibit a wide range of THE BLACK FURS' powers: from the super-stoned to the rawest and most garage-rockin' to pure blues to pure doom to even well-chosen covers by dual heroes The Stooges and Howlin' Wolf. To coincide with those aforementioned reissues is the MASSIVE compilation The Mayhem Years, which collects all those non-album releases as well as other rarities - nearly 80s minutes total, a true DOUBLE album!
