Over 70,000 Cambodian Buddhist monks have united in an unprecedented show of support for Donald Trump’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, hailing his pivotal role in brokering a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.

The ceasefire, which ended a deadly five-day border conflict in July 2025, saw at least 43 lives lost and displaced more than 300,000 individuals. But it was Trump’s unconventional diplomatic intervention — reportedly leveraging trade negotiations — that pressured both countries to end hostilities.

In August, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet formally nominated Trump for the prestigious prize, acknowledging his significant contribution to restoring peace in the region. Days later, the monks, many of whom had marched through Phnom Penh waving banners in gratitude, echoed the praise.

This bold endorsement comes on the heels of similar nominations from global leaders. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, along with officials from Pakistan, has lauded Trump’s role in facilitating peace agreements across the Middle East and South Asia.

But not everyone is convinced. Critics are quick to question whether these peace agreements are sustainable or mere temporary fixes. Yet, supporters are undeterred, arguing that Trump's unorthodox diplomacy has produced tangible results in reducing global tensions.

As the world awaits the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize announcement in December, one thing is clear: Trump's supporters aren’t backing down, and neither are his critics. The battle for the Nobel Prize is far from over.

On the afternoon of August 19, 2025, Thai military forces made an unannounced and forceful incursion into Cambodian territory. Multiple armed units crossed the border through the An Ses checkpoint in Choam Khsant district, Preah Vihear province, without prior coordination or notification to the Cambodian authorities. The Thai side claimed the operation was merely an inspection of the An Ses checkpoint.
