☝️your hairstyle is your lifestyle.

I personally feel free wearing the hair that naturally grows out of my scalp (with a few color tweaks of course) — because fighting my curl every day to conform to a hairstyle that doesn’t form naturally isn’t realistic. Hair wise, I’m low maintenance; and I love the organic, “wabi-sabi”, perfectly-imperfect style my curls gift me with on *most* days when I wake up in the morning.

But that feeling doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Especially if you grew up forcing your curls into submission, or one day they appeared out of nowhere (thanks, hormones!). It’s a journey to learn the ways of wearing your natural hair that feels good to you — and it’s a very personal journey.

Feeling the pressure to either conform to traditional beauty standards OR feel the need to embrace your natural hair can both be restricting. What happens if you don’t follow a trend, and learn your own hair rhythm that works for you?

Because you’re the one that wakes up to your hair every day, and as an individual, you have the freedom to customize your look in whichever way makes you feel best in the mirror.

Don’t get me wrong, I will always see natural curls as beautiful on someone and encourage someone to try to embrace their hair. But the glow from someone that has found a personal style that truly emulates their unique beauty — that is unmatched. And that is a journey we all get to experience as many times as we wish in life, as long as we chose to stay curious and spend time with our innermost self.

You don’t have to put yourself in a box, you just have to figure out what kind of packaging works best for you 💜

On vacation from doing my own hair
📍Punta Cana, Dominican Republic I LOVE IT HERE

I prepped my hair by rinsing and applying leave-in conditioner (also detangled) so my hair was nourished and manageable for my braider (thank you Raquel). My braider used Vaseline on my hair to part/braid the hair, so I’m grateful I prepped it with hydration underneath.

Afterwards I was sure to apply sunscreen on my scalp, wear a hat, stay in the shade, all the things ☀️

Wash care: When showering, I did a thorough rinse and *light* shampoo with a hydrating formula I packed with me. I emulsified the cleanser in my hands before carefully getting into the parts between the braids until the take down, which will be followed by a deep cleansing chelating shampoo to reset.

Styling: I wanted my hair to look long and not flat so the hair sections underneath were styled DOWN, and the sections on top by my flat crown were styled UPWARDS for max volume and movement.
