Round of applause for our newest furry addition. โจ
Meet NatHAMiel. ๐น
I was at work one day when this tiny fur baby was returned. He had been living in a travel carrier and wasnโt even able to properly burrow. For a little guy whose natural instinct is to dig, nest, and create burrows, I couldnโt stop thinking about him. ๐ญ
I held him, looked at his tiny face, and in one very spur of the moment decision, knew I was bringing him home. ๐ฅน
Nathamiel is a Syrian hamster, and fun fact: these little guys can grow to around 6-7 inches long! Theyโre naturally solitary creatures, nocturnal, and incredible burrowers, spending their nights exploring, digging, sniffing out snacks, and rearranging their little worlds. ๐
So, Iโve been slowly building his world with him. ๐ซถ
Heโs currently in a 40 gallon tank with a secure mesh lid, deep bedding, hides, enrichment, a wheel, places to climb, and plenty of opportunities to burrow and chew. His favorite chew so far? A hamster-safe WHIMZEESยฎ by Wellnessยฎ . ๐
What I didnโt expect was just how sweet this little guy would be.
Syrian hamsters have poor eyesight and rely heavily on their other senses, and theyโre not typically known for seeking out cuddles or being held. But Nathamiel loves when I talk to him, comes running over to investigate, and happily accepts gentle pets.
Watching his personality unfold has been such a sweet reminder that trust takes time.
Maybe heโs โjustโ a hamster, but heโs already teaching me a little about patience, curiosity, and what happens when you give someone the space to feel safe enough to be themselves.
Iโve always said the animals who come into my life become chapters of my story.
Chanel is a chapter.
Now, Nathamiel is one too. ๐ค
His chapter is nurture and growth.
I find a little piece of healing in caring for the beings around me, and Iโm so excited to watch this tiny guy continue to grow into himself.
