Ed Rosenthal spent more than 50 years fighting cannabis prohibition in the U.S.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will honor Fela Kuti this November with its Early Influence Award, making him the first solo African artist to receive the distinction.

We spoke with his sons, Femi and Seun about Fela’s relationship with herb and how it became part of his music, politics and personal freedom, while also giving the Nigerian state a way to discredit his message.

Femi says he eventually stopped puffing for that reason. Seun, meanwhile, still considers it a companion to his meditation and creative process.

In Texas, one delta-8 gummy can now carry a much harsher penalty than an ounce of herb: A standard 4-gram gummy can land in a felony bracket carrying 2 to 20 years because Texas counts the weight of the entire edible, including the sugar. Meanwhile, an ounce of herb is still a misdemeanor.

And while delta-9 gummies are still sitting on store shelves, a federal rule coming in December is set to close the loophole that lets heavier products carry higher doses.

Texas moved delta-8 into Penalty Group 2, where possession is weighed with the candy. One gummy can now carry more time than an ounce of ma*****na.

For five years, Hawaii had a smokable h**p market operating in plain sight.

Now the state is cracking down on flower, pre-rolls, and vapes, while retailers argue that years of limited enforcement allowed them to build businesses around products the state says were never legal in the first place.

That's where the lawsuit begins.

Hawaii's Act 14 prohibited smokable h**p in 2020. For five years stores sold flower, pre-rolls and vapes openly, hired staff and built a customer base on top of it.
