A few opinions on Online vs In-Person school

Message: Hello, I am a student in 9th grade and I would like to express a few opinions on online school There are not many articles that discuss the problems of online school during the covid pandemic from the perspective of a student, there are many negatives to online school that should be brought to the attention of parents of kids that are attending schools. The first major problem with online school is the lack of interaction with the teachers, this problem has lead to many students not asking questions that they should be asking and as a result their understanding of the curriculum and their grades drop. This lack of understanding continues as online school continues, which is detrimental to high school students who need good grades in regular classes and AP classes in order to make it into a good college. The second major problem is the abundance of distractions, this is because kids are on their devices and have access to applications that are not school related, which allows the student to potentially procrastinate and not learn the material. This only compliments the first problem of a lack of interaction in order to learn. There are many other students who would agree with me when I say that online school is a waste of resources and does not help students in the pandemic. Thank you, Aanand Sriram

"Spittincobra Cop watch" was out for a walk the other night in Tempe when he saw police preparing to have a car abandoned on a bridge towed. Then, at about 5:45 into the vid, the drunk owner shows up and threatens to kick everyone's ass. It doesn't go well for the car owner, needless to say...

Phoenix PD is asking the public if anyone knows anything about a 1978 homicide and sexual assault following the recent arrest of a suspect. From the PD:

"On June 10, 1978, at approximately 6:02 a.m., 23-year-old Fernando Calleros and an adult female were found in the bed of a pickup truck, parked in front of a business in the area of 3000 E. Illini Street. Calleros had been beaten to death. The woman had been sexually assaulted and severely beaten as well.

The scene was processed, and evidence was collected. Among the items of evidence collected were fingerprints. When this investigation was conducted, fingerprints had to be manually compared with individuals whose prints were on file. Through that process, fingerprints were identified as matching those of 21-year-old Glenn Edward Williams. Williams worked and lived in the area where the incident occurred.

In January 1979, Williams was taken into custody. He was interviewed by detectives and he denied involvement in this incident. However, based upon the circumstances, including the fingerprints at the scene, Williams was booked into jail, charged with the crimes. The charges were eventually “turned down” for lack of evidence and Williams was released from jail. Detectives had done all they could and exhausted all the technology available to them at that time and they could not proceed any further.

The crime of homicide has no statute of limitations and the investigations remain open until they are solved. In 2019, the case was reexamined by the Phoenix Police Department Cold Case Homicide Squad. Working with scientists from the Phoenix Police Department’s Crime Laboratory, they began reexamining evidence obtained back in 1978. Using today’s technology, the scientists were able to link Williams to the crimes through DNA evidence.

On April 9, 2020, Williams was taken into custody and interviewed again. Once again, he denied involvement in the incident. However, based upon the evidence originally gathered in 1978, and the testing done then as well as now, probable cause was developed to charge Glenn Edward Williams with the homicide of Fernando Calleros and the sexual assault beating of the woman, which occurred over 40 years ago.

Even though an arrest has been made in this case, detectives are asking anyone who may have information concerning this investigation to contact the Phoenix Police Department Violent Crimes Bureau at 602-262-6141. If they wish to remain anonymous, they can contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish."
