A Latino voice that shaped Arizona. 🕊️ Frank Camacho, one of the state’s first Mexican-American news anchors, has passed away at 75. His decades-long career broke barriers and uplifted countless stories—especially those of everyday Arizonans.

A familiar and trusted face in television news, Frank had a distinguished career spanning more than 30 years at KPHO and KTVK-TV in Phoenix. Born in Laveen, Arizona, Frank broke barriers in an industry traditionally dominated by white Americans, becoming a pioneering voice and a trusted presence to generations of Arizonans. He began his career in radio at KRUX in 1975 and KTAR in 1978 before making his mark in television news.

The Arizona Latino Media Association extends condolences to Frank's family and friends. His longtime work in radio and television served as an example of professional journalism for the many fellow journalists in the newsrooms where he worked.

Frank- gracias por tu trabajo, dedicación y el ejemplo que diste a los demás.

We honor his legacy, his love for community, and the path he paved for Latino journalists everywhere. Descansa en paz, Frank. 🤍

🌟 Meet Roxanne: ALMA Scholarship Recipient & Storyteller for Change 🌟

Roxanne’s journey into journalism began with a childhood memory—a Latino journalist who spoke not just about writing, but about serving. That message stuck with her, and today, she’s living it out as the Education Solutions Reporter at Arizona PBS.

“Receiving the ALMA scholarship not only helped me financially, it also gave me the chance to be part of a warm community of like-minded professionals,” Roxanne shares. “The board truly cares about uplifting Latinos in journalism and are always willing to offer guidance.”

From Rio Salado College to earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Cronkite, Roxanne has built a career rooted in truth, empathy, and amplifying voices that often go unheard. Her advice to future journalists? Take advantage of everything ALMA has to offer.

We’re proud to spotlight Roxanne and celebrate her commitment to storytelling that uplifts and informs. 🎙️📚
