Royal County Down truly lives up to the hype. Many people have this ranked top 3 in the world and I get why. It’s not a country club, amenity packed facility. It’s a golfers club, the way golf was intended to be played. It is pure in its own links style course way. Tight lies, blind drives, crafty shots. You have to have it all. We had mixes of high gusts of wind, a small spell of some rain rolling in from the Mountains of Mourne, but all in all it was an unreal day of golf.

Today was a proper round of Ireland golf at Royal Portrush. We had about 4.5 holes of great weather and then the rain came in and wind got gusting to 20+ mph and we just had to hold on from there. Ironically I also played much better golf during that entire stretch, despite all the wetness and management that has to go along with the. Portrush is as pure of a course as you’ll find. Host of the 1951, 2019 and 2025 Open Championships, I can’t wait to get the opportunity to come back and play it again, hopefully very soon.

Portstewart Strand Course in Northern Ireland is a special one. I’ve been lucky to play the course once before but there’s been a few minor changes since then. Our first 5 or 6 holes was brutal. Wind gusting at 20 mph plus, rain coming down, a true Ireland golf day. Gotta say though, the best touch here was the Guinness and sausage roll at the halfway house. That was class.

Trump Doonbeg is one of my favorite combinations of hotel/property & golf courses anywhere in the world. The place is truly special. I’ve been fortunate to stay and play here before but I will always want to keep coming back. They’re also getting ready to host the Irish Open in a little less than a month so that place was pristine
