According to investigators, Jordan Cux Blas was driving a Toyota Tundra south on Cave Creek Road at about 10 p.m. when another vehicle, also driven by a 17-year-old, was traveling aggressively alongside the pickup. Police said Blas lost control just south of Hatcher Road after striking a curb, causing the truck to roll over and crash into a fence.

Maricopa County is at the center of the outbreak, accounting for 47 of Arizona’s 61 reported infections and all five deaths through the week of July 24. That represents a sharp increase from the same point last year, when the county had recorded 24 cases and two deaths. Pima County has reported 11 cases, while Coconino and Pinal counties have each recorded one.

The district is also defending its handling of records sought by Peoria police. Investigators have served two search warrants seeking documents connected to former teachers Angela Burlaka and Haley Beck, who are accused of sexual misconduct involving a student. After the first warrant was served May 28, the district asked a judge to determine whether some requested material could legally be released, citing concerns including attorney-client privilege and student information. Police served a second warrant earlier this month and searched district administrative offices.

A short technology failure at American Airlines created disruptions across its U.S. network Tuesday evening, temporarily preventing flights from departing and leaving airports to work through the resulting delays.

The airline imposed a nationwide ground stop after a technology issue disrupted connectivity for some of its systems. The Federal Aviation Administration reported the restriction, which American said remained in place for 49 minutes while the problem was addressed.
