SPJ will provide $1,300 in funding to each regional conference in 2026 to support programming. Of that total, $500 per region is made possible through a generous sponsorship from the Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism, helping support training, resources and opportunities that strengthen community and knowledge-sharing among journalists nationwide.

Our Phoenix SPJ chapter mourns the recent death of longtime Arizona Republic journalist Abe Kwok. Since 1989, Abe worked in many capacities at the Republic, most recently in the opinion section. He was active in the Arizona chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association and had served as chapter president. We will dearly miss Abe's talents, professionalism, dedication to journalism and good humor.

We're very happy to announce that the relevant, useful, affordable 1-day journalism conference we're planning for Friday, April 10 will be held at the fabulous Flinn Foundation building at 1802 N. Central Ave. in central Phoenix (on the light rail B Line). We're preparing a terrific lineup of sessions on what matters to journalists in 2026 on the theme, "It's a Dry Beat: Speaking Truth in a Truthiness Age." (Hard to pass that up, right?)

Valley media peeps: Say goodbye to 2025 with people who get you. Join colleagues and competitors 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, for the legendary '25, presented by SPJ Phoenix. It's at a new location: Arizona Wilderness Brewing's Miracle Mile, 1418 E. McDowell Road, just west of the 51.
