10 minutes or less organizing tasks...

Shower products are next

Start by gathering up ALL shower products: do you have a shower set somewhere in your cabinet you got as a present for Christmas 2 years ago? salt bomb that were forgotten in a dresser drawer?

Bring it all to the bathroom, sort it by type and have that honest conversation with yourself we all dread:

"Will I ever use this?" "I haven't used it in X years"

It's OK to let go

I'll bet you'll enjoy all the extra room you'll create!

Magazines and catalogs

Yes, I get that everything can be found online, BUT I still love to leaf through a catalog or magazine.
And, inevitably I'll keep a "I'll get to it pile". Maybe I'll even save a few favorites.

Those piles can grow easily! 🙃

Take a peak at those piles today:

Older catalogues are easy recycles especially if they are from a different season.

Magazines are a little more time consuming- compose a plan to read them over the next couple of days, think of all of the places where you'll have to do some waiting: Doctors office, car line, gymnastics class... Once you are done, recycle/donate.
Voila, you have a great time killer and are decluttering at the same time!

Cleaning supplies!

I have tried cleaning products in the past that just didn't work out...

The de-greaser that promised to leave no-streaks 😕 , the floor cleaner that is not meant for hardwoods, the bathroom cleaner that smells way too strong...

These can be donated! check in with your local shelters.

Don't forget to dig in all the way in the back of your cabinets- Get them all out and start anew

Have you seen the Jerry Seinfeld bit about the sock that escapes? Look it up if you need a good laugh today.

The mystery of how we end up with a sock without its mate continues, still declutter those today!

They CAN be re-purposed. They make great dusting cloths and of course if you have littles, a sock puppet project is always fun!

Pare down your mugs-

Do you and your family have your favorite mugs and you notice those are the only ones in the dishwasher because of daily use

YET you have several more in the cabinet that never see the light of day?

Give yourself permission to let them go today, if you haven't used them yet, you probably won't.

There's always that lipstick color that wasn't quite right for your complexion, maybe that moisturizer that did not help your dry skin...

The eyeshadow that broke forever ago and got over everything?!

YES, all of that goes

Let’s talk product.

“Product” is basically organizer lingo for the bins, baskets, dividers, etc. - (for most people) the pretty, fun stuff! The right product can help maximize your available space, set containment limits (whatever fits in the bin, basket, divider, etc. is what’s allowed to stay), and make for simpler maintenance and resets of your organizational systems. It’s an important part of the organizing process for sure, and shots like these offer a fun glimpse into the extensive product planning and sourcing that goes into a lot of our projects.

BUT.

But.

Product is not the SOLUTION to the issue of disorganization and clutter in your home. That, my friends, will always come down to simplifying and just 👏🏼having 👏🏼less. The editing step of our process, where we work with clients to help identify the things they truly need/use/love, is actually my favorite part of what we do - it’s a wonderful thing to see the figurative weight lifted from someone’s shoulders as we remove literal weight from their space and give them room to breathe!
