Looking back on another annual trip to Indiana for the Indianapolis 500. Hard to believe we’ve been making this trip for almost 12 years now.
As much as I love the race, one of the biggest highlights every single year is getting to fish with my cousin Bob. He’s an incredible angler, and somehow every year we pick a day to fish, Mother Nature decides to make things difficult. Rain, storms, stubborn fish… it’s basically tradition at this point.
This year became “Dinkfest 2026.” We probably handled close to 200 crappie with only a handful of keepers mixed in, and I somehow managed to almost complete a full reservoir grand slam catching just about every species imaginable on the same bait.
Honestly though, that’s not really the important part.
The older I get, the more I realize moments like these matter a lot. A day in the boat, laughing about tiny fish, telling old stories, and spending time with people you care about becomes the kind of thing you hold onto.
Already looking forward to doing it all again next year.
