From the world’s largest chainsaw to a working outhouse display (don’t ask), this roadside stop is pure Upper Peninsula humor at its finest.

Deep in the woods… I found what’s left of a town most people have never even heard of.
Fiborn Quarry used to be a booming limestone operation… now it’s just a bunch of crumbling foundations, weird rock formations, and water that literally disappears into the ground.

No river… no lake… it just vanishes.
It’s part ghost town… part geological mystery… and 100% one of the coolest places I’ve explored lately.

There are some smelt showing up at the Roxbury tonight, but they’re few and far between. Water temp is just over 40°.. around 40.3.

People are catching them, but they’re definitely working for each one. A bit windy and chilly, but not too bad out here tonight.

Carp River Smelt Report – April 19
It’s a slow start tonight. Water temps are holding between 37° and 39°, but the air is much colder than last night… and you can feel it.

Not seeing nearly as many smelt as we did yesterday. A few here and there, but it’s definitely quiet compared to last night’s action.

Bundle up if you’re heading out, and as always, I’ll keep you posted with updates!

Lots of people out here tonight! We’re getting a few…. maybe 1 or 2 smelt every 5 dips or so. Not hot and heavy, but they’re here if you’re patient.
Conditions are still a bit cold and windy.. dress warm!

A couple guys are out here dipping but haven’t seen any action yet. Water temp is a bit above 34°, quite a bit colder than the Carp. Wind and weather are just as rough down here… miserable conditions all around.
