The track where I walk has some bumpy, uneven spots where tree roots have grown under the pavement. I'm kind of a klutz, so I always go slow and pay attention going over these places, lest I wind up eating concrete. Yesterday, I had a lot on my mind. My family is affected by the government shut down, and while we have everything we need for now, it is scary. As I walked, I prayed, and at some point, I started repeating Psalm 23. This is what I was quoting as I came over the rough spots on my last round. When I finished, I realized I barely noticed the area that I usually have to pick my way through. My take away is this. We will always go through rough spots, but just maybe, when we keep our focus on the One who makes us lie down in green pastures, who restores our souls and all the other things in that psalm, the rough places won't feel so bad.
