Very poor secondary roadway conditions and much more icy/slushy than expected main roads resulted in a LOT more school closings than we anticipated this morning, especially South of I-96.

Realistically, this outlook could have been verified as a "Likely," or even an "Extreme" risk level for much of the area, which, at the time of its creation, the forecast, and especially the lack of confidence in said forecast, totally limited our ability to nail this down accurately.

This is one of those times when we were technically wrong, but everyone is happy because they get a snow day, so for us, it's a win-win. 😂

Back to bed this morning for many students across West Michigan, with plenty of school closings reported across most of the area.

A light wintry mix this morning will return to snow late morning into the afternoon, with additional accumulations likely. Variable winds this morning, with the low-pressure system overhead, will turn northwesterly this afternoon and become gusty with gusts up to 30-35 MPH.

Temperatures this morning, starting in the 30s, will fall throughout the afternoon.

School Closing Outlooks for BOTH Wed. & Thu. have been posted! There is a “Medium” risk of school closures Wed. The best chance will be north, where the highest snow totals are expected.

Winter Weather Advisories are in place for areas north of a Holland to Lansing line (along/north of I-96) as another round of mixed wintry precipitation is expected to move into the area this evening into the overnight hours. This will likely cause impacts for the Wednesday morning commute.

While areas south of I-96 will still see some wintry precipitation this evening, temperatures warming above freezing will allow for rain to mix in through the night, cutting down on accumulations.

This will likely cause at least some potential for school closures for some of us on Wednesday morning, and we will have our thoughts out on that potential this evening.

We're getting some reports of freezing drizzle, mainly North of I-96 along US-131. Watch out for slick spots!

✅ Snow has exited the area. Roads will remain slick and snow-covered for a bit.

⚠️ This break won't last long though, with additional wintry precipitation expected by this evening for parts of the area!

⚠️Heads up, West Michigan! We've got an intense band of snowfall moving in just in time for the morning commute! This band will feature rapid reductions in visibility and road conditions with snowfall rates of 0.5 to 1 inch per hour!

Prepare for slowdowns, slick, snow-covered roads, and reduced visibility during your commutes to work and school this morning!
