BREAKING: Due to a lack of players, the Hatfield-McCoy Bowl, scheduled for July 26 at Mingo Central, has been canceled, Miners’ coach and Game Director David Jones told the Mingo Messenger earlier today.

The game, which originally ran from 1996-2013, pitted the top graduated seniors from southern West Virginia against those from eastern Kentucky. This summer, the bowl game was scheduled to return for the first time in 12 years.

”We’re canceling the game due to not enough
players on both sides. We lost over 13 players because they have to report early to college, so we will be doing it next year at an earlier date to avoid this issue,” Jones told the Mingo Messenger.
