Plan to Vote in Next Year’s Elections? Register at County’s Voter Registration Day Tues., Sept. 16
Register now to participate in next year’s elections. That’s the message to voters from Laramie County. The Board of County Commissioners in recognition and support of the civic duty of participating in elections recently proclaimed Sept. 16 as Voter Registration Day. The County Clerk’s office is supporting the effort to inform and register eligible voters during a special Registration Day event at the Laramie County Library on Tues., Sept 16.
“With the passage of new laws requiring proof of citizenship and residency, many people have questions about what the changes will mean,” said County Clerk Debra Lee. “National Voter Registration Day provides an opportunity for residents to bring their government-issued identification documents, have their questions answered,
and add their name to the registry if they meet the qualifications.”
Lee said the Wyoming driver’s license or Wyoming ID are the gold standard documents and satisfy most if not all of the requirements for proof of citizenship and residency. If a person does not have a valid Wyoming license or ID, other government-issued identification, such as a driver’s license from another state, U.S. passport, or military ID are accepted. However, Lee noted that if the document does not list a Wyoming address or does not meet the proof of citizenship requirement, other documents may be required. Wyoming law also requires persons who do not have a
Wyoming driver’s license to provide the last four digits of their social security number at the time of registration.
The event will also feature various educational programs and activities. Adults and students from 5th grade and up are invited to cast ballots in a mock election that will determine the name of the library’s new blue cart.
Informative programs on how to register to vote, what’s on my ballot, ways to vote in Laramie County, how to be a poll worker, and how we vote in America will be available during the day, and the library will have an election-themed art activity and story time for children.
The National Voter Registration Day event takes place in the library’s Cottonwood Room, 2200 Pioneer Ave., from 2 to 7 p.m. For more information on voter registration or the event, visit the Clerk’s Election page at
