We are fully back to getting orders out as quickly as the ladies will let us. The extreme heat temperatures across the US have thankfully chilled out finally. I will not be taking anymore hatching egg orders for the 2026 season so we can get caught up again and start prep for 2027. Orders go out in the order they were received.

Also, reminder we do not ship during the holiday rush, that is Thanksgiving week through New Years, it’s just too risky.

We will have some new announcements headed into next year and I cannot wait to share with all of you!

Tomorrow is the Fall Equinox. Do you have light on your birds? If you do not it’s the natural cycle for laying to slow down, birds to molt, and stop laying through the winter months.

Quail and most poultry’s laying cycles are governed by the light. Low light hours reduce hormones in both male and female birds. Without supplemental light they will enter a resting period until the light hours begin to increase again in the spring.

Want them to continue laying, keep the light hours up to around 14hrs. There is also nothing wrong with allowing your birds to take a natural break. Nature created it that way for a reason.

Did you know?

That tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants are tender perennials. Most parts of the US grow them as annuals, but with proper care in zones 10-11 some of them will last for years although production can slow.

Some of our oldest plants have made it to the 5 year mark before needing replaced. It’s nice to have some last and not need to replant again. Those that do best for the long haul are the Thai eggplants, Everglades tomatoes, and the hot peppers. A few of our pepper plants are turning three this coming month.

I know everyone is after the sweet potato tubers 🍠

But if you’re not utilizing the greens you’re missing out on a huge opportunity.

Not only are they edible, young leaves are used in recipes just as spinach.

Also, the animals greatly enjoy them as a fodder option as well! All birds, rabbits, and especially the goats. They are packed with protein, fiber, antioxidants, and essential minerals.

If I gave the goats the opportunity they will head straight to them and mow them down quick. On previous escape attempts that exactly where I found them 🤦‍♀️

Anyways if you’re growing them give the leaves a try! In salads, sauté, smoothies, on sandwiches. They are a very versatile crop!
