So why even engage on social media?

I think social media is an opportunity to engage with potential customers in a new way. Just like television, radio and the newspaper all offered businesses with a new way to bring their product, offering and service to people in a new way, this is no different.

What is different, I think, is the way that social media is always evolving. How you do it is constantly changing. Again, I see this as a great opportunity, because the different ways you now have to explore and connect people to the core of your mission.

I am fascinated by how with the growth in social media came a shift in how marketers market. Before, it was them telling us what we wanted. Now, it is consumers telling consumers what we want. Everyone and everything has been brought down to the same level. They are employing normal people to tell us why we like what we like in a relatable and entertaining way.

Social media is an opportunity to build a unique audience and following that if you are strategic, could really lead to long lasting customers who love your brand because they are inspired by what you do.

So, what do you think? Why do you or don't you use social media to promote your brand?

I was in a client meeting and they were talking about scheduling their social media post at the same time as their email. I asked, "why?" I then said these are two different audiences.

What I meant was, these audiences should be treated like they are at different stages in a relationship with your brand. If your email audience gets things before social media, guess what you get to say on social media and in your ads? "Subscribe to our email list and be the first to access x,y,z."

I have no incentive to subscribe to your email and clutter up my inbox if everything you are saying on social media is the same.

You have got to start thinking of your social media as a place to catch plenty of fish, but they have not committed to anything as far as you know, so don't give them all the goods!

You've got your brand down! Now, you are looking for social media management? How do you know you are ready?

1. Know your goals
What do you want out of social media? Are you looking to gain a following? Build a community? Create brand awareness? Decide on your goals and their priority level.

2. Portfolios
Look around at different portfolios and become familiar with the work the social media manager you are considering has done. This can help you in your expectations of their work and in understanding if whether or not their style is a right fit for you.

3. Keep an open mind
No matter what your goals are, time is always a factor in the equation. Be willing to go through the process, but also work with your Social Media Manager to establish Key Performance Indicators. What do you want to see in the next 30, 60, 90 days based on the content strategy you decide to implement?

Are you ready to talk about social media management? Fill out my contact page www.icgsocial.com/contact-us, to set up a 30 minute call where we can chat about your goals and see if I may be the right fit!

When it comes to your Call to Action, there are some key things to remember.

What is a call to action? It is what you want your audience to do. How you want them to react to the post. I like to think of it as a soft conversion. You want to move people to a next step after interacting with your post.

Example: Free Download, Sign up for course, Comment for download of course, visit link in bio.

It is okay to showcase more in your carousel images. Some people use a tag image showcasing multiple ways to engage with their page and content. I think a single CTA is best when it comes to your caption.

What do you think about these tips? Have you been clear with your CTA on post?

When bringing in a social contractor you need to be sure of a few things about your brand. One of those things is brand voice.

Many of the companies I have worked for model their brand voice after their CEO. There is nothing wrong with that, but you need to be able to communicate what that actually means in order to pass on the baton to an incoming social contractor who is not immersed in the day to day of your company.

Sure company values and mission help, but also consider a few more things.

1. Approachability: Is your tone/voice like a friend talking to a friend? Or, do you want to communicate as an expert who people come to receive knowledge? Is your voice feminine, masculine or gender neutral? All of these things help to know when it comes to writing social copy.
2. Vocabulary: Consider key words you often use to communicate to your customers and employees. It would be great for your contractor to know these to add into copy and it even gives an overall idea of how you want to communicate. Key words can indicate passion points and inspire great content.
3. DON’Ts: What are your company don’ts when it comes to communicating? You need to be able to put into words how you don’t want to communicate. Maybe you haven’t learned this yet, but once you start to notice a tone you do not like or spot it on another social account, you should take note. Your contractor works for you and the goal is to communicate the way you want to. Things are only going to get better if you can collaboratively work toward narrowing down the tone that is right for your brand.

When hiring a social contractor, having a general idea of these 3 things is very great place to start. We want to deliver results. We want to create content that is engaging. Your approval shouldn’t be a hurdle in pushing content out. Knowing what you are looking for is key to receiving content you are pleased with every time!

The best thing about strategy is it is always evolving and always changing. You see the data and you make informed decisions about your target audience, about your content and even change your goals.

You can do this yourself! Simple steps help you start and maintain. I want to help give you those steps. Step one find your niche. Now again, this can change. But start somewhere. Start today!

Here is what I’ve learned from over the years, both personally and professionally. You cannot connect with others if you do not first know yourself.

The same is true when it comes to social media. Many times companies have a lot of things to offer, a lot of things to communicate and a lot of quotas to fill. Often times, that leads to their social media platforms being used as just another way to sell, but if that’s how you are using your social media you are missing the opportunity you have to grow.

Getting your product, services, company in front of new eyes. Reaching beyond your current context and growing organically is going to take you defining your brand and defining your audience so that you are saying the right thing to the right people.

Take the first step today with the FREE questionnaire. Use this as a building block in a new social strategy that will be uniquely yours. Share this with your next social contractor or team to help them plan your content and tailor to your defined audience.

This month!

I have 4 more spots available to take new clients.

Services I provide include:

Social Media Management: Regular maintenance of your social media profile, posting and commenting/interacting with the people who engage with your page.

Content Creating and Strategy: The two go hand in hand. Let me help you create a plan for your online presence. We work together to create a cadence and content that is right for your audience. I then take that plan, design and create content relevant to your niche, schedule post and interact with your audience while we sit back and wait to see what this means for your social horizon. (It’s fun!)

Social Consulting: Maybe you don’t need me to do all the work, you have an intern, assistant, child that can really step into this role of engaging in posting, but you lack the strategic plan. I will take a look at your platforms and the potential you have to grow in your content. I will create a brief report and a road map as to how you could grow your presence and a posting plan that will help get you started. Hopefully, my consulting will be the beginning of an on going relationship where I can evaluate your growth and adjust the plan as time goes on.

Want to learn more about my services? Check out icgsocial.com for a full rundown, or set up a time to chat with me if you need something specific.
