If you’re on LinkedIn, I encourage you to watch this video on post-industrial leadership created by Professor Matthew Chodkowski, who graciously provided feedback on my book, Doing the Chores. Based on his insights, I made a few updates to better align the book with post-industrial leadership development.
This perspective is a key component of what I call Talent Development 2.0. As I explored this work more deeply, I began to see leadership and management more clearly—and just as importantly, management’s (or anyone with authority such as a teacher, parent, or coach) counterpart: smart followership.
After nearly 30 years working in talent development, I realized this “new” way of thinking isn’t actually new at all—especially to those who grew up on a farm. On the farm, we instinctively understood what management is, what followership is, and how to shift between being a leader, a smart follower, and ultimately a collaborator who actively participates in leadership.
My book, Doing the Chores: Creating the Groundwork for Success, introduces these concepts in a practical, relatable way. It also includes training guides designed to help you educate and develop your team using this role-centric, post-industrial approach.

Thank you!
