One thing you need to know today:
Jan. 11, 1895 — Frank Montgomery had the contract to put up the ice crop in this city and had commenced work. Two kinds of ice would be put up by the brewing companies, No. 1 for the use of private families the next summer, and a poorer grade for the use in coolers. It would all be good ice, but the second grade would not be as clear from the weeds as the No. 1, which would be hauled about 10 miles. Mr. Pratt told a STAR scribe today that at least 40,000 tons would be harvested and stored in this city that winter.
